Homeward bound - 16(17).03.05
We got up quite early this morning in order to check in at Managua Airport - thankfully it’s only across the road from Las Mercedes! Check-in took about half an hour, as the security guys checked every other bag that we put through. Anyway, with check-in out of the way we headed back across the road to get breakfast and we were unexpectedly joined by Aida and some others from Ometepe who had come up to Managua to say goodbye to Ruth and Anagalys.
After breakfast we headed back to the airport. It was pretty uneventful after that, our plane was roughly on time and before too long we were in the air, heading to Houston.
We touched down in Houston and took our places in the queue for Immigration, which took about half an hour. Then it was time to transfer our bags ready the next flight and go through security again. Before too long we were through into the huge departures area with a few hours to spare before our next flight. Everyone headed off to get food and pass the time (I ended up walking around most of the inside of Houston airport.. well, I was going to be sitting down for the next ten hours, so I might as well make the most of my freedom!).
Soon it was time to board the 777 and get settled in for the journey. The flight was a bit delayed taking off, and I settled down to try and grab some sleep and adjust back to UK time. Ten hours or so later we arrived into Gatwick and back to the somewhat cooler temperatures of Britain! Everyone began heading off and it wasn’t long before Jon appeared to take myself and Lee back to Seaton.
Before too long the sights and sounds of Nicaragua faded into the glow of memory, yet they would remain forever a part of their lives. And they all lived happily ever after.
And that, children, concludes our tale.
